EARTHQUAKES IN ARKANSAS AND IMPACT ON AGRICULTURE AND FLOOD-CONTOL STRUCTURES

It has taken over a century to achieve the current level of agricultural productivity within?
Arkansas. A magnitude 6.0+ earthquake takes only minutes to wipe out much of this?
work. There is a 25 – 40% chance this could happen within the next 50 years.

If a large quake hit there would be considerable damage to dams, levees, and?
canals. The large-scale agriculture of today is impossible with widespread flooding,?
subsidence of the land surface, and thick sand blow deposits?.
