Have you heard of First Day Hikes before? It’s a neat concept. Basically, state parks across the U.S. celebrate the start of a new year with these hikes on January 1.The first one took place over 20 years ago at the Blue Hills Reservation, a state park in Milton, Massachusetts. The initiative targeted the first of January—the start of a new year—to promote healthy lifestyles. Through the years, other states have joined the program by offering First Day Hikes and other outdoor programs on New Year’s Day.
