Come join CAMN at St. Joseph Center of Arkansas (SJCA) for an MLK Day of Service event. SJCA is expecting 100-150 volunteers from all walks of life to show up on Monday, Jan 20 to help with service projects. Over a dozen inside and outside projects are available for volunteers. Come be a regular volunteer, or come help on one of the three projects being led by CAMNers. Deb Sanderson is leading a project to clean up the Blessed Bee and Butterfly Pollinator Garden and get it ready for a busy season of pollinators flitting about. She may have some work on the native meadow as well. Bert Turner will be hosting a Rock Party (picking up rocks in pastures to allow bush hogs, fertilize spreaders, and other equipment to do their thing to make the soil healthier). Dave Danner has the primo job of burning at least four large piles of debris we have cleared over the past three years. If you would like to see honey locusts, mimosa, privet, Bradford pears, Japanese honeysuckle, greenbrier, cedar, and other invasive plants go up in smoke, this project is for you! We really need experienced help for the brush burning project.
If you want to work with Deb on the BBB garden, please bring all gardening tools, tarps, and a flamethrower for fire ants. If you want to work with Dave, bring metal rakes, backpack blower, or other fire tools (not hoses). If you want to work with Bert or on any of the other outdoor projects, leather gloves and rakes should do it. Show up between 8:30-9:00 at SJCA, 6800 Camp Robinson Road, North Little Rock, 72118. We are working under a grant, so all volunteers will need to sign in so volunteer hours will be reported on their forms for the grant. There will be a short kickoff inside the building at 9:00 then the work will begin. End time will be ~12:00 followed by a FREE LUNCH or donate a few bucks for the cause if you want! If you have burned brush piles with us before and would like to help out, please email Dave Danner at dan14106@aol
