Postponed NWAMN Book Club
Wintry Greetings, Although a Zoom book club meeting will not be an adequate substitute for our in-person book club meetings of past years, we think it is time to restart our MN Book Lovers meetings and book discussions. Our first MN Book Lovers Zoom meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 18th from 6-8 pm.
At this meeting we will discuss a book that is undoubtedly familiar to most of you: A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold. Our plan is to send the connection information for the book club discussion (the Zoom link as well as a phone number) for our meeting one week as well as one day prior to the meeting.
Homework: (1) Ken Leonard will be leading the book discussion for Sand County Almanac, and he asks that you carefully read and be ready to comment on the section entitled “The Land Ethic” which is at the end of the book. (2) Rose Gergerich would like to propose that we perform a literary plagiarism of sorts for the chapter “February, Good Oak”. Here, Leopold relates the ecological and conservation events in Wisconsin for a hundred years as cataloged by the concentric growth rings of a large oak tree that has been felled by lightning. If we were to write a similar essay for an oak tree in northwestern Arkansas, what events would we include from the last 100-year history of northwestern Arkansas? So, we hope you will read this book and join in the discussions in February and March.
