Barge trip to Bird Island, Lake Ouachita State Park

Registration is open to Members and Guests as of 08/04/21:<br /><br />Bird Island is Bird Island is Arkansas’s largest known Purple Martin roost. An estimated 8,000 – 50,000 birds use the area between late July and early August. The island is a staging area for martins as they feed on insects and develop fat stores before migrating to South America.<br /><br />Date and time: Thursday, August 5th, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We will meet at the marina at Lake Ouachita State Park. Please arrive no later than 7:00 pm. Time, tide, and barges wait for no man.<br /><br />Cost: $10 per person paid by cash or check. Make your check out to DLAMN. Payment will be collected at the marina.<br /><br />Capacity and Registration: The barge can carry 20 people. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis for DLAMN members. Members will need to register on the DLAMN website. If on Wednesday, August 4th there are any open spaces, we will open the registration to guests. Information on the number of spaces remaining and how to register guests will be available on this site.<br /><br />Recommended items to bring: Water and maybe a light snack (the State Park does not allow alcohol); camera and binoculars
