Join Vic Prislipsky for a class on Bird Identification. Vic is a retired educator, member of the Hot Springs Village Audubon Society, accomplished photographer, and well-known instructor to Birders in our area. Birding is a topic the education committee decided to emphasize this year. Not only is it an area that most members are interested in but it also offers DLAMNers so many opportunities to be who we are: Educated Volunteers participating in activities such as Project FeederWatch and the Christmas Bird Count; Citizen Scientists using apps such as Merlin Bird ID and eBird to report data; and Volunteer Educators leading Bird ID Walks.
The class will be held at Hot Springs Village, Coronado Center, Room 6. You can enter the Village at either the West or East Gate. Tell the gate attendant that you are with the Arkansas Master Naturalist and are attending the Bird ID Class. The gate attendant will have a list of those that have registered for the class. To avoid having problems at the gate please register. If you get there and have a problem, call Karen Hicks at 501.831.0990
The class starts at 9:00 a.m. in Room 6 of the Coronado Center. Enter through the front door. We’ll break for lunch around 11:30. After lunch Vic will lead a Bird ID walk along the trails around the Coronado Center. You will need to bring a sack lunch, water, and insect repellent. If you have them, bring binoculars and a field guide. Also, consider installing Merlin Bird ID and eBird on your smart phone and setting up an account. If you have questions about these apps, there will be someone at the class that can help.
