Loren Labusch and Darcia Routh. Darcia Routh is an experienced professional geologist (AR-Registered PG #1877) with environmental health, academic and industry experience in hydrogeology and carbonate sedimentology. She spends much time and effort promoting science literacy in the context of public drinking water protection. A lifelong learning, she is a master naturalist (NIT 2008, CAMNation MN of the Year 2012) and interpretive guide and frequently leads geology field trips. You can find her out in the countryside removing invasive plants, honing her science communication skills, or puttering in her garden while wearing a large-brimmed hat and sunscreen. Loren Labusch earned her BS and MS in geology from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She currently manages the Groundwater Protection Program within the Office of Water Quality’s Planning Branch at the Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality. Her work for the State largely includes ambient groundwater monitoring of the various aquifers throughout Arkansas and supports other state groundwater protection programs such as the Arkansas Department of Health’s Wellhead Protection Program. Additionally, she has specialized knowledge of karst hydrogeology and has conducted extensive research within the mantled karst of the Ozarks. Through college she worked as a nature guide and introduced many people to the natural beauty of the Ozarks by canoe and horseback.
