About this event
On Saturday, November 16, Dr. Alex Banard (National Park College and DLAMN) will conduct a water quality test at Bull Bayou. This is a great chance to pick up some volunteer hours and/or NIT training hours before the end of the year. As a bonus, Dr. Alex will start the day off in the lab with a quick microscopic review of what you may be finding at Bull Bayou.
We will meet at 9at the Lab Sciences Building on the campus of NPC, Room 123. There will be about an hour of preliminary macroinvertebrate ID training using preserved samples and microscopes. Then we will head to the Bull Bayou picnic area. You can find it on Google Maps or use these coordinates on a navigation app: 34.5296498, -93.0960664.
If you wish to just meet at the picnic area, be there by 10:15. If you want to wade in the bayou, wear appropriate footwear, but it is not necessary to get wet to participate. Alex will provide the necessary equipment. You might wish to bring bug spray and water. The sampling should take about 2 hours. NITs can count this as 3 hours of NIT training and NATs can count one hour of classroom time and 2 hours of volunteer time. If you have never taken part in a Stream Team event, this is a unique way of "getting your feet wet".
