About this event
(geared for Middle, Jr. High and Sr. High educators)
Forestry jobs in Arkansas pay a 134% higher salary than the statewide average, yet many of those positions go unfilled. Educating youth in the field of forestry is vital at filling these in-demand careers. Green jobs represent one of the fastest growing and changing segments of the global economy. At the same time, today’s youth are seeking rewarding careers that help us move toward more sustainable lifestyles and greener economies. Some of the most exciting—and perhaps greenest jobs—involve forests. Join us for this PD event featuring Project Learning Tree’s Green Jobs: Exploring Forest Careers. This unit includes four hands-on, NGSS aligned, instructional activities to help youth research forestry jobs, and practice managing and monitoring forest resources. The afternoon session will be conducted in the field with foresters from Green Bay Packaging. We will learn about a variety of forestry careers and see examples of sustainable forestry practices used to maintain healthy forests
