DLAMN - Odonata: Dragonflies & Damselflies of Arkansas
About this event
Dr. Alex Barnard, PhD in Evolutionary Biology, Associate Professor at National Park College, and Certified Arkansas Master Naturalist, will present a morning class and afternoon field study on Odonates: Dragonflies and Damselflies of Arkansas. Topics will include an introduction to dragonfly and damselfly lif cycles, ecology, behavior, and identification with a focus on species found in Arkansas.
The classroom presentation will be held at the National Park College Lab Science Building, Room 118 from 9:00 to 12:00ish. Weather permitting, after the class we will go to Bull Bayou Picnic Area for a picnic lunch and an afternoon of looking for and identifying adult and larval odonates. Wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Several aerial insect nets will be provided; bring your own if you have one. Also bring binoculars - many dragonflies can be viewed that way.
You will need to bring water, a sack lunch, appropriate footwear and insect repellent.
