Alex Barnard, PhD in Evolutionary Biology, Associate Professor at National Park College, and Certified Arkansas Master Naturalist will present a class on Odonates, specifically the dragonflies and damselflies of Arkansas. Topics will include an introduction to the life cycles of odonates, ecology, behavior, and identification of species found in Arkansas.
The classroom presentation will be held at the National Park College Lab Sciences building, Room 118, from 9:00 AM to noonish. Weather permitting, after class we will have lunch in the picnic area. We will then spend the afternoon looking for and identifying adult and larval odonates. Wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Several aerial capture nets will be provided, but if you have your own, please bring it. Also bring binoculars because many dragonflies can be observed that way.
You will need to bring a lunch, water, insect repellant, and appropriate shoes.
