About this event

THIS IS IT! JOIN US! Deployment of millions of native seeds (75+ species) and planting of 250 herbaceous perennial plants and a half a dozen, or more, shrubs. Work throughout this year culminates at this event. This project is in partnership with Corp of engineers and Master Gardeners. (weather reschedule dates if required 12/11 and 1/7 or 1/9)

Larry Price has led native seed collection events throughout this year to seed approximately 6 acres at Dardanelle Lock and Dam. After the seeds of native flowers and grasses were collected, seed cleaning parties were held to extract seeds from the heads and remove the chaff so that the seeds can be distributed by a Vicon Pendulum Spreader across the acreage.

The day will start at 8:30 or 9am for drag harrow of site. At 10am we will begin seed opening and mixing. After the seeds are dispersed, potted plants will be placed, and planting can begin.

VOLUNTEER TASKS and APPROX TIMING: (Volunteers Welcome to arrive ANYTIME!)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION/HISTORY: The site is an old baseball field that’s been retired. It’s adjacent to Dardanelle Lock and Dam. Larry Price was contacted to consult and assist with species recommendations, site preparation and planting of the site. This old ball field will be a new Native Habitat hosting native wildflowers and grasses with a pathway for visitors to enjoy.
