This opportunity takes place at 8:00 AM on Monday, 9 December, 2024.


Join us for a road trip to the Western Grove Forestry Station to assist the Ozark Chinquapin Foundation (OCF) pack and mail out blight-resistant seed to members and partners. The OCF is short-handed this year and has around 3000+ seeds to package and ship. This is a very unique opportunity to help with the propagation of a very rare and unique tree that was nearly forced into extinction by a human-introduced blight.

PLEASE NOTE that the short notice is because mailing the seed has to take place while a several day span is above freezing and there are a lot of moving parts involved in coordination.

PARTICIPATION OPTION 1:
As this is a longer distance and starting early, the OCF has offered to cover hotel stay in Harrison Sunday evening. If interested in this option, it will be imperative to contact Robert by Saturday Evening for details and confirmation of number of participants. Carpool/caravan to the Seville Hotel in Harrison will be leaving Robert's house at 2:00 on Sunday.

PARTICIPATION OPTION 2:
Arrive at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, 23 January, 2024 at the Western Grove Forestry Station, OR if 8:00 AM is a tad early and you would rather arrive a bit later in the morning, please feel free to do so. It is very likely we will be packing the seeds through about 1:00.


Where:

Meet at 0800 at the parking lot of the Western Grove Forestry Station at 36.108682,-92.960604 (cut and paste name or coordinates into search box in Google Earth). The Western Grove Forestry Station is immediately off Hwy 65 just past Western Grove. It is approximately 100 miles north of Conway on US 65 (2.0 hours).
