Chapter Meeting and Potluck
About this event
Mack Calvert, a graduate student at UCA, will give a lecture on non-perennial stream ecology. In his words, "intermittent or non-perennial streams only flow seasonally or after rainfall and play a crucial role in water quality, groundwater recharge, and ecosystem health. They represent 60% of stream miles in the US, and in a recent supreme court case (Sackett vs EPA 2023) lost their protection under the Clean Water Act. In my presentation I talk about their biota, geomorphology, threats due to climate change, and the legal struggle surrounding them."
After the lecture, we'll have our business meeting and a potluck lunch. Bring something to share if you can! Reusable dishes are also recommended.
