DLAMN - Geology of Hot Springs

About this event

Dr. Lindsey Waddell, of the Arkansas School for Math, Sciences. and the Arts, will present a class intitled " The Geology of Hot Springs: Ensuring the Future of Our Thermal Waters". This program will provide an overview of the geology of the Ouachita Mountains with an emphasis on the Zigzag mountains, which include Hot Springs National Park. We will explore how the unique geology is responsible for the existence of Hot Springs Park's famous thermal waters. We will also discuss recent data on how human activities threaten the future of the thermal springs. The presentation will be followed by a walking tour of rock exposures in the downtown Hot Springs area.
The class will begin at 9am at ASMSA. Participants should wear appropriate shoes and bring along some water. After the class we will be free to lunch downtown. This class will count for 3 hours of NIT training or NAT continuing ed.
