Thanks for the great response to the call for Tinkerfest volunteers!  Appreciate Ginger Allinson, Shaye Hopson, Zoe Eagan, Emily Flora, Jodi Morris, Beth White, Corbin Cannon, David Holcomb, and Anne Holcomb.  Today is THE last day to sign up as a part of the "official" team so you get a T-shirt, but if you end up with time and curiosity that makes you want to join in, please get in touch with Anne Holcomb anneholcomb@sbcglobal.net. 501-626-6677

What is Tinkerfest?

Tinkerfest is a one-day festival dedicated to creativity, curiosity, and innovation. Sponsored by the Museum of Discovery, makers, artists, and tinkerers come together to showcase their work and invite you to join in the DIY fun. Engage in hands-on, open-ended discovery that highlights science, technology, engineering, art, and creativity. Reclaim, reuse, and reconstruct cast-off materials, learn new skills, and explore innovative making.

CAMN was invited to participate in the festival this year, and we are featuring an exhibit that demonstrates the highs and lows ofprairie plants. Kids will view pictures of various prairie plants and gage their height by PVC pipes cut to that length, and then, based on information we give them, they will be able to see how deep the roots grow by pulling out a tape measure to the designated length (spoiler: most roots are surprisingly deep!)In addition, they will be able to look at various seeds and roots both under a microscope and by using their own magnifying glasses which they can take home with them.

We currently have 3 volunteers involved, but we really need 6-8 to cover the time between 9:00a and 3:00p. We would LIKE to have 3 shifts: 9-11, 11-1, 1-3.Each shift needs at least 3 folks:
1) Someone to talk to the kids about the plants, and tell them how far to pull the tape measure
2) Someone to be in charge of the microscope
3) Someone to help kids use the hand-held magnifying glass to look at seeds and roots, etc.
The museum would like to know how big our team is by this coming MONDAY, AUGUST 25, because everyone gets a free T-shirt, and they need to know sizes.Volunteers also get pizza for lunch, and snacks along the way.
Please consider joining ShayBrianne Hopson, Ginger Allinson, and Anne Holcomb if you can spare a couple of hours (or more!) on Saturday, September 13.This is a fun event, and a fun way to get some volunteer time in!
