Subject: November Meetings - I hope you'll join us!
From: Miranda Kohout

Hello, all!

I hope you all have adjusted to the time change. As an early riser, I appreciate the extra daylight in the morning. The cool nights have resulted in some spectacular fall colors. Right when you enter Elm Springs from the south, there is an oak tree that is SO thoroughly yellow. Keep an eye out for it if you travel that way, and please share your favorite tree with me! I drive all around NWA way more than I'd like, but if I can keep an eye out for a particularly show Maple or Black Gum somewhere, it will improve my journeys.

Coming up this month, we have two meetings to which you are most enthusiastically invited.

The first is our November Board of Directors meeting. That will be at the usual time, which is 6:00 pm. You are welcome to join for the entire meeting, or just a portion - whatever fits your schedule. While we generally discourage comments from guests during the meeting, we would love to hear from you during the open discussion time at the end of the meeting. And if there's a topic you'd like added to the agenda, please let me know.

Here is the link and info:

The second meeting is our November Chapter meeting.
Our chapter meetings are held at the Washington County Extension Building. This month's will be on the 16th from 2-4pm
Our speaker will be Renee Sniegocki from the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust. Renee is NWALT's Director of Land Stewardship, and she'll be talking about what NWALT does, her role there, and about the work at Betty Hinshaw Bird Sanctuary in particular. The property was a hay field for many, many years, and NWALT is working to bring it back to a more prairie-like state. Anyone tackling a similar project in their own yard will find this to be of interest.

Afterwards, we'll have time to socialize and enjoy a cookie or two. There will also be a slideshow of pictures from this year's Living Forest: The Wizard of Hobbs. The costumes were incredible and need to be seen to be believed!

I hope that I will see you at least once in the next couple of weeks.
If there's anything you'd like to discuss in the meantime, you are always welcome to call or email me.

As a little treat for those who make it all the way to the bottom of the email:
Did you know 2025 is a mast year? And did you know that mast years are about more than just acorns? There are "soft" masts, too, like berries!
I think this may be why the Beautyberry bushes in my orbit seems particularly abundant this year. Their bright, showy purple is just delightful, as is seeing the birds enjoy the berries later in the year.
