President's Note:

I am super excited to see the direction the the CAMN Trails Team is headed! I think some great things are in store that will allow the team to grow, become more specialized, and open to more folks on different schedules to participate. It's not all "heavy-lifting!" Please read the following from Paul Gosnell regarding the first round of changes being made.

PLEASE NOTE: The attached chart will be MUCH easier to read on a desktop computer or tablet/iPad than on your phone.

Attention All CAMN Members

In 2026 the Central Arkansas Master Naturalist Chapter will celebrate its 20th Anniversary and since its beginning there was a Trails Team. Starting with just a few trails at Pinnacle Mountain State Park, the reach of this team now encompasses a total of 19 trails and trail connectors. That’s just what we are currently supporting, across the CAMN region there are plans in action to expand the number of trails, not to mention the city park trails that we don’t currently include in our list of trails. These trails are a valuable resource in our state and across the nation. For many of us, trails are where we go to escape the confinements of a modern world, a place to enjoy the outdoors and a classroom where we go to learn about nature.  They truly are a treasure for all of us.

To achieve our goals, the Trails Team will be reaching back to how it began and reintroducing a CAMN Trails Guide concept.  We are looking for volunteers to fill those roles and adopt trails, 2 guides for each of the trails we support. The remit of a trail guide is NOT to manage the trail by themselves. Any large efforts will be supported by the whole Trail Team, and where available, support from our sponsors. Trail Mentors are there to assist Guides in their development and to introduce them to the sponsors.

Trail Guides will be asked to periodically hike and inspect the trails they have adopted. To assess and report its current situation, addressing minor issues such as picking up litter along the trail, lopping a few limbs, and removing minor obstacles that block the trail or make it unsafe. Also, as the name implies, Trail Guides can lead other members of CAMN and the public on trail hikes. After all, the trail team isn’t just about trail maintenance, though that does sometimes happen, the trails team is there because a day out on the trail is one of the best days imaginable.

If you are interested in being part of the Trail Team as we enter into the next 20 years of our history and want to volunteer to be a Trail Guide or if you want to find out more information please reach out to one of the mentors, listed below.
