2nd & Cumberland Lawn Proposal
Dear CAMN - Some of you already know this; others may not. Janet Lanza is working with CALS to make a native space in the area left open by the interstate redo. Naturally there are folks who would rather see other stuff than a native space. CALS has a site that people can login to and state their preference for having a native space. You can access it by clicking on https://cals.org/lawn-proposal

The green space at 2nd and Cumberland sits as an underutilized area of Downtown Little Rock. With a little bit of planning and investment, the space could be so much more.
With the approval of the City of Little Rock and ARDOT, CALS would like to lead efforts to install pollinator gardens, shade trees, walking paths, and community plazas for gatherings and events. Where possible, native Arkansas species would be planted that require minimal upkeep and serve as host plants for insects.
This space would provide a safe, accessible area for outdoor activity, mental relaxation, social events, and CALS programming. The space would undoubtedly become an asset for our staff, patrons, and community.
CALS is committed to seeing the community grow and thrive. This plan is just a small part of that commitment.
If you feel comfortable doing so, please reach out to the Board of Directors for the City of Little Rock at board@littlerock.gov. Tell your city directors to support this volunteer-led effort! And feel free to visit the link shown at the top of this email to let the city know you'd like to see native plants in the area in question. |
