NWAMN Weekly Update

Hobbs_12132025
To all of you who care for Hobbs State Park,

I know all of you are aware of how important reestablishing the Ozark chinquapin tree is to the staff of Hobbs State Park as we collaborate our efforts with the Ozark Chinquapin Foundation (OCF).

In 2014 we officially planted our first restoration plot with over 50 Ozark chinquapins. More have been planted in different areas of the park since then, and devoted volunteers care for them.

The Ozark Chinquapin Foundation is a volunteer organization that relies on understanding volunteers and memberships/donations for research and field work that result in those blight-resistant seeds for all who want to help in the effort.

When one of the Hobbs/OCF volunteers devises a unique and generous way to help restore this native tree, it merits attention.

One of our most avid Ozark chinquapin guardians at Hobbs State Park is Tara Dunn. She, her husband David, daughter Izzy, and son, Finn have all volunteered their time at the main Ozark chinquapin plot at Hobbs. Tara noted that the family involvement was all part of their commitment to nature.

Tara recently chose to become a Yoga instructor. Graduating now, after 200 hours of personal Yoga training, Tara has planned her first official Yoga session, a donation class. No surprise, Tara chose to donate all proceeds to the Ozark Chinquapin Foundation for further research and field work to help the over-all effort to restore the Ozark chinquapin for the benefit of our forest animals.

Congratulations to you Tara and thank you for being a solid Ozark chinquapin guardian.

If you might want to join Tara’s donation Yoga class or just donate to help the Ozark chinquapin cause, shoot the QR codes on the flier above.

NWAMN  Interpretive Group

Jennifer Hudgens, a NWAMN volunteer who played the Pileated Woodpecker recently in The Wizard of Hobbs program depicting forest damage and restoration efforts following the May 2024 tornado, assembled photos and interviews about the event. There was not enough time to show the full canva design at the meeting, so it is included here for the Chapter Membership to enjoy!
