Hi, this is Keith Newton. I’ve gotten back to cutting the Bradford / Callery Pear trees at Gilliam Park. Audubon is trying to establish an Oak Savanna, but didn’t have any success killing the pear trees at that time. However last year I cut and treated ~4000 or about half of them. And triclophyr 3A has stopped any root sprouting.
While I’m ok with going out there alone in the early mornings, Audubon would like for me to have another person along, just for safety.
It would really help to have someone with loppers to cut the smaller seedlings, while I’m going after the larger trees that can produce seeds with my chainsaw.
I have 2 cordless loppers that makes cutting easy, except for the bending down. Boots, tough pants, gloves and drinking water are all you need. I’ll have bug repellent, because it’s all out in the weeds and vines.
I like to start at first light, and work until 9-10:00.

Oh, Ruddie from Audubon will be working with me on Fridays, but Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday are best for me.
After finishing the Audubon project, I’d like to move on to Two Rivers Park, to cut Chinese Tallow trees which are starting to grow along the water’s edge there. That is if I can get their permission.
AND if any of you know other public lands where these invasive species are taking over, please let me know.
None of our indigenous insects can eat the leaves of these trees, which means there won’t be anything for our songbirds to feed their young, like our native trees provide.
