The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is going to be held this year from Friday February 14 through Monday February 17. This citizen science volunteer project is a great way to get some easy volunteer hours, learn more about birds, and help Audubon with their research.

The best way to learn about GBBC is to check out their website gbbc.birdcount.org. When you are ready to identify birds in your area use the tab under the Toolkit section called Bird List. Enter the zip code where you are identifying the birds. The list will appear with the birds most common in that area. Keep track of the ones you see. Also keep track of the time that you did the observation (15 minute minimum). You can then report your findings by logging on with your sightings. There is a really neat map that shows what birds are being observed in your area, state, country and world.

For those interested in doing a Team Camn bird count, join us at Two Rivers Park on Saturday February 15th at 9am. The address is 6900 Two Rivers Park Road. We will meet in the parking lot near the restrooms. Bring your bird list for zip code 72223 and wear sturdy shoes. In case of inclement weather, use your best judgement.
