Tyler Bend Hike - 4 Mile Loop - Rated Moderate
We will be hiking on the OHT/BRT for a mile along a ridge. Exit Ozark Highland Trail/Buffalo River Trail by turning left on the Rock Wall Trail for a gentle descent to the river. From there we will take a route past Visitor Center (closed). Take the River View Trail behind Visitor Center to Collier. We will be viewing the Bluff and explore the Collier Homestead. As a bonus, we hope to go through the only tunnel on the OHT/BRT – which is the culvert that goes under highway 65 to Grinders Ferry. As we hike Tyler Bend area, we will select a good lunch spot. Meet – depart 9:00 a.m. from Flippin Walmart or meet at the Collier Homestead parking lot which is about a mile from the park entrance on the left. Drive Time – 45 minutes from Flippin Walmart Directions from Flippin: From Flippin Walmart, take Hwy. 64/412 West to Yellville. Turn left on Hwy. 14 from Yellville to slight right on AR-235. (After 10 miles, take turn left to stay on AR-235). Left on US-65 for almost 11 miles, and cross Buffalo River. Once you cross the Buffalo River, the entrance for Tyler Bend Visitor Center entrance is on the right (1 mile). Turn right and drive to Collier Homestead parking lot. Bathroom at Campground was open a few weeks ago. Bring Lunch, water, hiking stick, and personnal first aid. PLEAE Sign up on the NCAMN Calendar for this hike.
