Arkansas Cervids and CWD (Continuing Education via Zoom)

Arkansas Cervids and CWD with AGFC Ken Forman
January 14 from 6:30-7:30 via Zoom
Two members of the Cervidae (or deer) Family call Arkansas home. Cervids are susceptible to a prion-borne "disease" called Chronic Wasting Disease (aka CWD). The first cases of CWD in Arkansas were confirmed five years ago. Since that time, the state's wildlife management agency (AGFC) has tested thousands of individual animals to know more about CWD's presence, prevalence, and containment possibilities within the state's borders.
Ken Forman, AGFC Education Specialist from Fred Berry Conservation Education Center will spend an hour or so sharing his knowledge on this fascinating study. Learn the biology of this "disease" (and why it should be in quotes), how it's affecting cervid herds in Arkansas, the USA, and the world, management plans for the state's herd, and future potential plans.
Participants will understand why a prion-borne "disease" is unlike typical diseases, what an individual can do to help stem the spread, and what can be done at the state-level.
Registrants will receive the Zoom invitation the day before the program.
