Join Virginia McDaniel, USFS Southern Research Station, for a tour of the USFS Mt. Ida Seed Orchard. The Orchard features large acreage of grasslands and open woodlands. As we tour by auto, we will stop frequently to get a close look at the abundant variety of spring and early summer flowering plants. In addition to observing the many beautiful flowering plants, we will be helping Virginia with creating a species list of the plants found at the seed orchard and with the collection and processing of plants for the herbarium.

We will start at the Caddo/Womble Ranger District Office, Mt. Ida, AR. Please meet there no later than 9:45 a.m. We will leave for the See Orchard at 10:00 a.m. sharp!

IMPORTANT! This event is weather dependent. Should the weather not cooperate, we will reschedule to a different day of that week.

You will need to bring insect repellent, a sack lunch, and water. We will pause around noon for a picnic lunch at the Seed Orchard. After lunch, you can continue the adventure with Virginia or return home.

Directions: From the intersection of Hwy 270W and the Mt. Pine Road, travel approximately 28 miles west on Hwy 270. The Caddo/Womble Ranger District Office will be on your left.

Those wanting to carpool can meet in the Harp’s Parking lot no later than 9:00 a.m. We will leave promptly at 9:00 a.m. in order to be at the District Office by 9:45 a.m.

IMPORTANT! We realize that this event is over 30 miles away and we talk so much about how fortunate we are in DLAMN to have nature at our doorstep. However, this an exceptional opportunity to view activities that are not available to most Master Naturalists. We really encourage you to spend the day with Virginia McDaniel. You will not be disappointed
