Thursday, 21 September, 2023, 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Please note this is also a drop-in event to accommodate folks still in the workforce, if you can't get here at 4:00, just walk in - the door will be open.
Meet at Robert Fuhler’s House – 29 Ridgeview Drive, Conway (correctly located on Google Maps/Earth).
From Conway, take Hwy 65 North to Acklin Gap Road (next light past Pickles Gap), turn right and travel approximately 1.2 miles to Ridgeview Drive (landmark will be a large privacy fence on the right), turn right down Ridgeview Drive, 2nd house on the right.
Objectives and Details:
Processing of Native Seed Heads from collection forays lead by our favorite Botanist, Larry Price. Focus will be on Beebalm (Monarda fistulosa) and transfer/processing of Coneflower (Echinacea spp) from drying screens. M. fistulosa needs to be trimmed to allow removal of the seeds/Echinacia will need to be shaken.
There will be snacks provided (feel free to contribute if you like) and the traditional tea break (a welcome relief when processing Monarda).
This is also a drop-in event so any members still in the workforce can hopefully pop over after work.
What to Bring:
Scissors or sharp pruning snips (to trim the tops of the Monarda seed heads)
What Can Be Learned:
Identification of various species of native seed heads.
Processing techniques for seed removal (specifically Monarda and Echinacea species)
