DLAMN - Ozark Chinquapins
About this event
Susan Giovengo and Emily Stubblefield will present a hands-on workshop featuring the unique Ozark Chinquapin. This event will take place at the Visitor's Center at Lake Ouachita State Park. You will learn the history of the chinquapin and the efforts of the AR State Parks to restore the tree to our forests. Susan and Emily will present the OC identification and the reasons for its decline. Susan will also share the data she and others have collected about growing chinquapins from seeds and saplings.
Weather permitting, you will have a chance to help plant some seedlings. You will also learn about the effort needed to increase the success rate for seedlings, and hopefully the chance to volunteer on a regular basis in maintaining the chinquapin "grove".
As you can see, it will be a full day of learning and hands-on activities. You will want to bring a lunch. Dress for some time in the woods. You may want to bring insect repellant and water. This will count as 5 hours of NIT training/NAT continuing ed.
